BQ27510-G1: Impedance Track algorithm question

So I was reading through this document: http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slua450/slua450.pdf (Theory and Implementation of Impedance track algorithm) and on the description for figure 2 on the bottom of the 2nd page it says, "After the 30 minute relaxation period has passed, the dV/dt < 4microV/s condition is checked. Once it is satisfied, OCV readings are taken."

I am wondering why this dV/dt condition needs to be satisfied to take the OCV reading. I feel like maybe it's obvious and I am just not understanding or there is some math behind it which I can't quite figure out. Either way, any help is appreciated.

    • After charging or discharging ,the voltage of battery will change for a period of time and then become stable. To make sure the voltage taken is correct, we need to make sure the battery has relaxed well. When the voltage changes is less than 4uV/s, it is considered the battery has relaxed well.
