TLC6C5712-Q1: Requesting Safety Case documents to support ISO-26262 development

Hello,

I am interested in obtaining any safety case analysis data on this device to support functional safety analysis on an automotive instrument cluster.  In the absence of this, any documentation that describes the safety characteristics of the device in more detail than the datasheet provides will be appreciated.

If such documentation does not presently exist, it might be helpful to have the quality people at TI start to put together such documents for this product family, as the datasheets mention how the devices are suitable for use in safety-critical automotive products.  The growing requirements for ISO-26262 compliance will necessitate such documentation frequently in the future.

    TLC6C5712-Q1 is a standard catalog automotive device which was not specifically developed under any functional safety standards. Considerations for functional safety would not have necessarily been considered during product development. Any documentation we create/provide retroactively to help with ISO26262 compliance does not fulfill the intent of the functional safety standard. Furthermore providing documentation like this begins to imply compliance to the functional safety spec, which go above and beyond standard AEC-Q100 requirements that the device was released under.

    Bottom line: Since this device was not developed as a Functional Safety device, I do not believe we should be providing detailed Functional safety related information. We can provide documentation that’s part of a catalog automotive offering developed to fulfill AEC-Q100 requirements, but if users wants to use this device in their functional safety system they will have to develop/evaluate their system accordingly.

    If customer needs to use TLC6C5712-Q1 to develop the functional safety system, recommend to list the materials customer needs, we can evaluate how we can help to support the detailed cases.
