BQ27742-G1: Limiting factor for current

Part Number: BQ27742-G1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD83325L

What's the limiting factor for current for this solution?  It seems it would be the FETs chosen and the sense resistor's power handling capability.  However I noticed the eval board is limited to 3A and I wasn't sure why.  It looks to me that if I use the CSD83325L that is recommended in the datasheet with a suitably large sense resistor then doing 5 or 6A shouldn't be a problem.  But that 3A number threw me off especially when the eval board has a 10A max transistor on the output and the sense resistor is 1W.   Am I missing something about the range of measurement or something like that?

Thank you.

  • Hi Eric,

The gauge can support current levels greater than 3A.. The EVM was just design for 3A with 1ounce of copper because most single cell applications do not have significant current draw greater than 3A. That doesn't mean the gauge can't be used in applications having higher currents.

    thanks
