TPS3702-Q1: Series Resistor on Sense pin

Part Number: TPS3702-Q1
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS3702

Hello,

Customer wants to use 300ohm~1Kohm series resistor on Sense pin of TPS3702CX33QDDCRQ1 to protect reverse current from GND to Sense pin when reverse voltage is asserted.

Is there any problem regarding threshold value or TPS3702 operation?

Can customer use series resistor on Sense Pin?

Please let me get your answer.

Regards,

Nicky

  • Nicky,

The device will be operational with a resistor in series with the sense pin but this will alter the threshold by the voltage drop across the resistor. Also, I don't think this will protect against reverse current especially if the resistor in series is much lower resistance than the resistor divider. We do not guarantee the suggested configuration will protect the device from reverse voltage or reverse current condition. The reverse voltage can damage the device is the voltages on any of the pins are outside of their abs MAX ratings found in the datasheet. I think a diode is a better component for preventing reverse current but this will alter the threshold even more and may vary the threshold depending on the operating conditions.

    Respectfully,

    Michael
