LP8725: I2C address question

Part Number: LP8725

HI Team,

This reply on TI support appears to confirm what we are seeing.

http://e2e.ti.com/support/power_management/pmu/f/200/t/549191

While we figure out if there is a way around the I2C logic in the micro, to force it to stay in 7-bit mode when it sees

a slave address of 0xFx, I’m wondering why TI chose an address of 0xF0 for this device, despite it using a 7-bit address,

and whether or not there is a mask option for this part which has a different, valid, 7-bit address?

  • Hi Ajayt,

I agree your concern about the I2C addressing. Since part is pretty old, I can only guess the reasons why they have chosen address starting from 0x78 which is actually the same as the 10-bit addressing first byte (111 10xx). Most likely they have not considered to mix 7 and 10-bit devices on a same bus at any time.

    Best regards,

    Jari Niemelä
