TPS61158: About maximum output current

Hi Team,

 

Our customer would like to use TPS61158DRVR at the following conditions.

 

<Our customer’s conditions>

-VIN=4.5V

-VOUT=9.6V

-IOUT= around 200mA

-L= 22uH (TBD)

 

I calculated “IOUT_max” using " calculating formula(5) in the datasheet".

-IOUT_max=around 168.5mA @ ILIM(min)=0.5A

-IOUT_max=around 208mA @ ILIM(typ)=0.6A


 

However, according to the datasheet, the recommended operating condition of IOUT is 30mA(max).

So, can TPS61158 not output the load current(IOUT) more than 30mA?

    According to your input, and refer to the equation (4) and (5) in datasheet, the Ip=0.280A, and max output DC current is 0.172A, considering the worst case.
    The recommeded operation conditions are guaranteed. When talking about the max output load current, these two equations are not the only limitation, others like power dissapation on internal MOSFET and DIODE, thermal enviroment of the chip, control loop stability are also need to be considered. So working in the recommended operation conditions is highly recommended.
    What is your really application? We have other device may driver higher current like TPS61161, TPS61169, TPS61500, they could find more detailed information in datasheet.
