LM2588: Large Input Current Draw and Compensation of Flyback

Part Number: LM2588

I am designing a  flyback transfomer with isolated feedback using an opto-coupler

Vin = 18VDC - 36VDC

Vout = 12V/1A, -12/1A

The issue I'm having is that the LM2588-ADJ draws excessive current and eventually leads to part failure. As per some application notes, i have the opto-isolated feedback connected to the compensation pin of LM2588-ADJ with 4.7KOhms pull up to Vin. The feedback pin of LM2588 is connected to -Vin.
