BQ51222: Compared to BQ51221

Part Number: BQ51222
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ51221, TIDA-00243

Hi team,

I am wondering what are the differences between the BQ51222 and the BQ51221. Is the only difference WPC 1.2 vs. WPC 1.1? Are there are any differences in performance, efficiency, layout, etc?

Is this the only TI Design that we have available: http://www.ti.com/tool/TIDA-00243

Do we have any EVMs available for either of these devices?

Regards,

Akash

"I am wondering what are the differences between the BQ51222 and the BQ51221. Is the only difference WPC 1.2 vs. WPC 1.1? Are there are any differences in performance, efficiency, layout, etc?" -- The 221 will identify itself as a WPC 1.1 receiver (RX) and the 222 will identify itself as a WPC 1.2 RX. Only one bit in the packet of information set to the transmitter has changed. When the WPC introduced 1.2.0 standard it was required that the RX identify as a 1.2 RX—BUT no other requirements to the RX changed. After some discussion the WPC standard was changed—If the RX can identify as 1.1 or 1.2 provided it meets all the requirements of WPC 1.2.
Both the bq51221 and bq51222 will meet the WPC 1.2 requirements.
