TPS782: TPS782

Part Number: TPS782

Can I put two TPS78230DDC regulators in parallel?  They would be controlled via the ENables.  Only one will be on at any time, although, it may be possible that both are enabled momentarily while switching ENables.

  • Hi Ian,

We have never done this on the bench here, but it should be possible to parallel two TPS782 LDOs. If you are only enabling them one at a time you will be fine as long as VIN is still higher than VOUT. Keeping VOUT higher than VIN of the regulator can damage the device.

When you are switching the enables to turn one off and one on it shouldn't be a problem, but the device that has the higher output voltage will be the one that is on during this transition period.

One more thing to keep in mind is that if you do plan on ever keeping both of them on to share the load current you will need to have ballast resistors on the outputs of the LDOs so they properly share the current. See this app note for more information on this: www.ti.com/.../slva250.pdf

    Best Regards,
