WEBENCH® Tools/TPS62420-Q1: Recommended inductors and the WEBBENCH suggested inductor values are different.

Part Number: TPS62420-Q1

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi

I found that the recommended inductor from the datasheet ( 2.2uH) and the webbench simulation suggested values for same input/output and load condition differs.

Which one to follow. The webench results in 1.2uH and 4.7uH where as the suggested inductor in datasheet is 2.2uH.

Thanks

  • Hi Navin,

Sorry for delayed response. For this design on Webench, the Inductor is calculated assuming peak to peak ripple current as some percentage of Iout (Typicaly: 30-40 percent of Iout). Please see the below equation. (Typically KIND value is kept as 0.3/0.4)

You can use the inductor values suggested in Datasheet. Kindly take peak to "peak ripple current through the inductor" into account depending on the type of load you're driving.

    Best Regards,

    Bhushan
