Boost converter with low EMI raidation

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ14201, TPS61088, TPS43060, LM3481

Hi, I am looking to find a BOOST IC with low EMI.

I found a BUCK IC LMZ14201 that is specified with low EMI, but didn't find any boost IC designed with low EMI.

I read the AN http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slva790/slva790.pdf

Please make some candidates.

Thank you.

  • Hello Shiwei,

LMZ14201 is a MODULE, and you asked for a boost IC.  Are you looking for a boost MODULE, or will you create your own design around an IC?  If a MODULE, please review the http://www.ti.com/product/tps81256 .

    Regards,

    ~Leonard

  • Hi Leonard,

Thank you for your response. Both MODULE and discrete IC are OK, as long as they have low EMI feature. I want to boost from 24V to 33V. Appreciate it very much if you have candidates.

    Thank you.

  • Hi Shiwei,

What is the output current in your application? do you care about the operation frequency?  What kind of EMI standard need to pass? CISPR22 class B?

  • The boost converter is able to supply 3A/32V, operating frequency doesn't matter. I will design a industrial device with a board that is designed with a boost converter. The whole device requires a CE mark, no the board itself. So I am looking for a boost module or IC that has very good EMI feature.

The TPS61088 is an candidate, the EMI test results are very close to  the threshold. Since the I will do EMI test on a device level, I am not quite sure if this IC is good enough. If there are any boost module with very good EMI feature similar to LMZ14201, that will help a lot.

    Thank you.

  • The maximum output voltage of TPS61088 is only 12v, so it can't fit. The EMI test result of TPS61088 is without the input/output  filters and on a bare board. In real application , there usually has filters on board. So the result will be even better

As your output voltage and total output power is high, so I suggest you to use a boost controller instead of the integrated IC. LM3481/78, TPS43060 is fit for your application.  By choose a right frequency, a right filter, and by adjust the drive resistor, it can pass the EMI test easily. For the guys who is familar with is board design, it should be easy.
