UCC24630: Any reference design available with universal AC input and 5V 6A output?

Hi there,

I saw a reference design with 19.5V output/ 3A. Does TI have reference design for 5V 6A with up to 93% efficiency?

This is a very popular cellphone fast charger application.

I assume that this is for universal AC input (90-264 V)?

There are several reference designs on the UCC24630 product page, click on the "tools & software" tab.

There are some 5-V high output current designs listed with 10-A & 6-A output:

www.ti.com/.../PMP10974 - 10 A, 2-switch Flyback

www.ti.com/.../PMP11281 - 10 A, 1-switch Flyback

The 2-switch Flyback designs above achieve ~90% eff. The 1-switch version is lower cost, but also lower efficiency.

93% eff is a tough target. Is that target for full-load efficiency, or average efficiency?

I have a potential customer requesting for 93% at full load and 85% at half load .

By the way,
What's the difference between UCC24636 and UCC24630 besides maximum frequency? Are they both "SR Turn-Off Independent of RDSON and Parasitic Inductance"?

Hello Lanhua,

The UCC24630 SR controller is targeted for CCM applications and can handle transitions to and from DCM and TM, whereas the UCC24636 is designated for TM and DCM-only applications and cannot be used for CCM. The off-time for UCC24636 is 4.35us, as opposed to 2.5us in the UCC24630. That is why the -636 has a lower frequency limit than the -630 device.
