TPS25923: Current limit for 0.9A

Part Number: TPS25923
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS25940

Hi,

Customer want to use TPS259231 for their type-c application as the 5V VBUS current-limit switch.  They need to support 3 type-c current limit (0.9A, 1.5A and 3A) by configuring 3 corresponding Rilim resistor value.  From the datasheet, I found the minuimum current limit we can support is 1A, so we have a problem to support 0.9A.  Do you have any idea to support this using TPS259231?  Or you'll propose any other chip?

Thanks!

Antony

  • Hi Antony,

    Thanks for reaching out!
What is the minimum load current that needs to be allowed for each current setting?
At 1.5A current limit setting, the device has +/-20% accuracy (refer Figure 20 in datasheet). So, the device can start current limiting anywhere between 1.2A to 1.8A. If the customer wants narrow current limit range means better accuracy part is needed. I would recommend to look at TPS25940.
The new device TPS2595xx, which is going to release this year can support from 500mA to 4A.
