about TPS60230 PWM dimming frequency range

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS60230

Hi,

TPS60230 is used for LED driver. However, the SNR of audio amplifier ouptut is degraded with PWM frequency (dimming) is less than 50KHz. And SNR of audio amplifier output is not interferred if the PWM frequency is about 200KHz. Is there any potential issue with PWM frequency is 200KHz since the maximum PWM frequency is 50KHz for the TPS60230 specification?

Thanks,

David Huang

  • David,

We have not tested this IC above the 50khz specification in the datasheet. Therefore, we cannot recommend using a PWM signal higher than that frequency.  I suspect that it will not work properly because the PWM signal drives internal current sinks and the current sinks likely cannot turn on/off fully at higher frequencies.  Therefore, the LEDs will not dim as expected for the given duty cycle.
