Intel Atom E3950 PMIC

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65094, CSD87330Q3D, CSD87381P, CSD87588N, CSD87352Q5D

Dear Sir/Madam,

We are into design of Intel atom E3950 (Apollo Lake - I)processor board. This board contains DDR3L-ECC based memory with two SODIMM slots (Max. 8GB). Kindly provide complete PMIC solution with sequencing and MOSFET selection. In Intel reference board they have used IDT* P9180 PMIC. But we prefer TI solution for power.

Kindly provide appropriate solution ASAP.

  • Hello Eashwar,
TPS65094 (http://www.ti.com/product/) has been designed to drive ApolloLake. I'm looping in our Expert on the device.
    Best regards,
    Frank
  • Hi Eashwar,

The Apollo Lake CRB utilizes the TPS650941 device and can be found in the Intel Document Library under IBL#560683. It includes the recommended FETs (CSD87381P and CSD87588N are on that board, though the CSD87330Q3D and CSD87352Q5D are all excellent choices) and a starting point for both schematic and layout. They use more capacitance than required but it provides good margin.

For DDR3L systems, the TPS650942 would be used instead of the TPS650941 in order to supply the proper voltage to the DDR3L.

The other item to consider is how you would like your board to power up. Our PMICEN signal is level dependent and when high, the system transitions from G3 to S5. Some people just tie this pin high for always on systems, or it can connected to a locking pushbutton, or even a latched push button circuit (like in SCEA048 shown below).

Let me know if you have any questions on the implementation.

  • Dear Kevin,

Thank you for your reply. Let me go through your suggestion and check power requirement for two DDR3L-ECC SODIMM Slots (Total of 8GB) and other power requirements that should match with PMIC.
