TLC6C598: Output protection from inductive load

Part Number: TLC6C598
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPIC6C596,

I started off with a TPIC6C596, which in turn is a ULN2803 with a serial interface on the front end, using it to drive 8 relays (24V @ 17mA each)

The TPIC6C596 has a problem in that it won't interface with 3.3V logic (it requires a 5V supply and Vih is 4.25V.

Then I found the TPIC6C598.

So I can presumably use the TLC6C598 to drive relays

My question is - does the TLC6C598 include any protection on the output from the flyback pulse from the relay, or should I add diodes to V+. I didn't see any mentioned in the datasheet, but the device seems very similar to the TPIC6C596 which does have output protection.

Regards,

Ian Benton.
