sn105125: What is the total unloaded power consumption?

Part Number: SN105125
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TLV741P, TLV733P, OPA349, LP5907, TPS709, TPS706

I need a good low power voltage reference for an analog circuit that should be quiet but doesn't have to be ultra-precise.  The SN105125 seems like it would work well.  The specs, however, do not clearly state what the maximum unloaded power is.  Quiescent Current is 1uA, and Ground Terminal Current is 150uA.  If the output of the regulator is only used as a reference for op amp circuits, can I assume that the total power consumption will be 1uA plus whatever is drawn for the reference points (likely <1uA)?

Thanks,

Mitch

  • Hi Mitch,

The quiescent current when SN105125 is disabled is 1uA. When it is enabled, the typical ground current is 150uA. Total input current of the SN150125 will be 150uA + load current.

You may want to look at these alternates for lower power and lower cost:
TLV741P Ground current is 50uA typ, 75uA max.
TLV733P Ground current is 34uA typ, 60uA max.

What are your input voltage requirements? Do you require a Power-Good (PG)/Power Okay (POK) or Enable (EN)?

  • Hi Eric,

Thanks for the information. I would like a voltage reference that consumes a few uA. I could go with an op amp such as the OPA349 in unity gain with a resistor divider on the input but for the divider to consume minimal current the resistors need to be large and I start worrying about leakage across the resistors causing the reference to drift.

Input voltage is battery generated and ranges from 3.6 to 2.0. I don't need PG, POK or EN.

    Thanks again,
    Mitch
  • Hi Mitch,

Take a look at LP5907 in the 1.2 V fixed version. It will operate down to Vin = 2.2 V and quiescent current is 12 uA typical, 25 uA max.

    TPS706 and TPS709 have quiescent/ground current of 2 uA - 3 uA max, but Vin min = 2.7 V.

    Best,
