UCD9248: Using three rails but not in sequence

Part Number: UCD9248
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PTD08A010W, PTD08D210W

I have a working design using the UCD9248PFC and two PTD08D210W to address four rails. Because for a new design I don't need the third rail, I decided to use a PTD08A010W for the fourth rail and just don't use the third rail leaving the corresponding pins in the UCD9248PFC unconnected .

The new PCB is already fabricated and is being mounted, but now I'm trying to disable that rail in Fusion Digital Power Designer and it complains: "There is a gap between rails; rails must be enabled consecutively"

Is any way to go around it? Could I leave a dummy PTD08A010W in the Fusion design even if there is nothing in the physical PCB and leave it always off so the UCD9248PFC will just ignore it? Is some way of doing this?

  • You can have a Rail 3 in the configuration but never turn it on. You can do so by configure Rail 3's ON_OFF_CONFIG to OPERATION Only. As long as you don't send an OPERATION command, the device will not try to turn on the rail.
