UCC27512: GND pin layout

D/S addresses that both the pin 2 and pin 5 (ground pin) needs to be shorting together by external PCB trace. we wonder to know:

1. What's the configuration between pin 2 and pin 5 inside the device? internal short together or short with impedance?

2. If both grounding are shorted together inside the device, why D/S also recommend to make a short between pin2 and pin 5 with PCB trace and short as close as possible ?

3. Can these two GND pin to be seperated for power/noise and signal ground?

    Thanks for you questions and interest with UCC27512. I am an apps engineer with this device. I have already begun to seek an answer to all your questions. You bring up a great point because the DS uses the words 'extremely important' referring to connecting them a certain way, close to IC. Allow me up update you on monday with an answer to how these two pins are connected internally I will also advise further to the feasibility of separating these GND pins.

    Sorry for the wait. Pin 2 and pin 5 are not internally shorted, they are loosely connected which is the reason why the datasheet says to connect AGND (pin2) to PGND (pin5) and in order to strengthen this weak connection the we advise to make the external connection as close as possible in order to have no more than a 0.3V difference to avoid grounding issues.
