LM3407: Cvcc value for stable operation

Part Number: LM3407

I would like to confirm Cvcc for LM3407.

In the datasheet page 18, the recommended value of Cvcc is 1uF with X5R or X7R, but in page 3, "minimum" value for bypass capacitor is 1uF.

I have questions.

1. Are there any problem when we use 10uF or 22uF?

2. How much is the value for unstable operation? Can not we use below 1uF capacitor, can we?

Best regards,

  • Hello Atsushi,

VCC provides the power for the control circuitry and also the gate driver. The gate drive will generate noise which is why 1uF is the minimum. So you should not use less than 1uF for Cvcc.

You can use a larger VCC capacitor with no problems, there is no maximum limit. The only difference is that the device will take longer to start up when VIN is applied or EN is pulled high from shutdown.

    Regards,
