BQ24401: BQ24401: Charge Parameters

Part Number: BQ24401
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ2002

Hi Team,

I've been looking at the BQ24401 and have a few questions:

  1. What is the maximum charge current this part can supply a NiMH battery?
  2. What is the part's quiescent current draw when a battery is fully charged?
  3. What is the max number of cells this part can support?

Best Regards,

Michael

  • bq24401 is a charger controller. The datasheet typical application support 1A. It is non-synchronize switching converter, I would think 1A is a good range.
bq24401 is a legacy part and doesn't have quiescent current data.
bq24401 is a charger controller with resistor divider to sense the output voltage. So, I would say it can support any cell you want.
  • Hi Wang5577,

With this information, it doesn't seem that the bq24401 is a device we want to use. Do you have recommendations for a battery charger for a single cell NiMH battery? This is an extremely simple application, but Iq is a concern.

  • bq24401 was released long time ago. Iq parameter may not be available. What type Iq (input or output at what condition) and value are this application trying to meet? I would think linear charger, bq2002, could have a lower quiescent from the input source because it doesn't have the gate drive loss.
