Using bq2084 and bq29312 to control NiMH Batteries

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ29312, BQ2060A

Does anybody have any experience in using the bq2084 and bq29312 devices for control of NiMH battery packs? Can this be done in a meaningful fashion?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Omer

  • Hi Omer,

Looks like nobody has responded. Here at TI we think that NiMH should not be used with bq2084 because it is "tuned" for Li-Ion chemistry and doesn't have provisions for nickel charge termination. We have not offered a fuel gauge for Nickel chemistry since bq2060A. That would be your best choice from TI.
