LM5101A: LO output voltage minimum ratings in AC

Part Number: LM5101A
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC27210

Hi, team,

My customer has one question about LM5101A, please help look into it and reply.

In LM5101A datasheet abs. maximum ratings table, LO output min is -0.3V. Is it a DC voltage value? And what is the AC voltage value?

In UCC27210 datasheet, we can see DC and AC voltage ratings as shown below.

Thanks.

Johnny

  • Hello Johnny,

I am an application engineer at TI supporting this device and will address your questions. For the LM5101A The LO output Abs Max rating of -0.3V minimum value is a DC rating and AC (peak) rating.

The UC27210 was tested and characterized before release to support the additional pulse rating of -2V for 100ns or less on the LO output pin.

  • Richard,

Normally AC rating voltage should be larger than DC rating. If AC rating is also -0.3V, is it only because we don't test LM5101A AC rating?

    Thanks.

  • Hello Johnny,
Your comment is correct regarding when there is an AC rating, or in this case a peak rating, it is normally higher than the DC rating.
The ratings in the datasheet are verified and confirmed before release thru simulation, test, and verification of internal device ratings. In this case the LM5101A was not verified prior to release for an increased negative voltage limited pulse duration rating, as is the case with the UCC27210 .
If there is a specific concern about short duration negative spikes, we can comment whether there is a concern on the device if we know the peak voltage and spike duration. The published datasheet limits are the guaranteed values however.

  • Richard,

Thanks for information. If customer still needs more evaluation, I will post the test result.
