UCC28051: PMP9730 Reference design

Part Number: UCC28051
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP9730, UCC28501, UCC28811

Hello,

I am referring to the PMP9730 reference design employs the UCC28051. While going through the schematic design I came cross the UCC28051 device and came to know that pin-outs is not of the UCC28051.

So please help me to know if the same UCC28051 can be used as it is as per the schematic ?  or this schematic is design for some other device instead of UCC28051.

Regards,

Gaurav

  • HI Gaurav,

Thanks for your interest in PMP9730. I believe UCC28051 is the PFC controller used in this design just the pin names were mis-labeled. I have reached out to the designer to confirm this.

    Best Regards,
    Ben Lough
  • Hello Ben,

    Thanks for the immediate response.

If it is just the mis-match of the pin names then it will make my way easy, but I would wait for the designer's response.

And also It would be a great help for me if you convey the response asap.

    Regards,

    Gaurav

  • Hello Gaurav,
I am not the designer of this reference design but I can tell you that the correct part is the UCC28051D.
When I looked at the Altium design files for the PMP9730 the library part used on the schematic was the UCC28811D but the BOM was manually altered for the UCC28051D.
The schematic and pcb is wired for the UCC28051D and the test results were all taken with the UCC28051D.
The error is in the schematic and it should be corrected in order to prevent any confusion

    FYI
The UCC28051D and the UCC28811D are very similar parts but as you discovered the pinouts have different reference designators.
It may have been that the library part for the UCC28051D was not available at the time the schematic was being drawn up.

  • Hi John,

    Thanks for the information.
  • Hello John,

    Thanks for the information.

I am actually designing a isolated power which support  12v 3A output voltage.

I found pmp9730 design matching my requirements so I started the design using this as a reference.

Now, as per the previous post UCC28501 and UCC28811 are very similar. Please can you let me know what would be the end of line period of both the devices (can they support for 10-15 years)

I was also looking for the design specifications of the flyback transformer for the PMP9730 design on TI website, if in case I have to go for custom made. Please if possible share design specifications for the flyback transformer.

    Thanks and Regards,

    Gaurav

  • Hi Gaurav,

Both of these parts are used extensively in many products and they will be manufactured by TI for a very long time.
Actually I don't know of any power supply controller  that has been discontinued by TI.
So you don't need to worry about part obsolescence.

The transformer is part number 7508112341 and is manufactured by Wurth Midcom.
You can get a copy of the datasheet by contacting them at:

Unfortunately I could not locate a copy but they will be able to get one for you.

    Hope this helps

    John
