BQ24004: Charge a 8.4V li-ion battery and power a 9V circuit.

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ24004

Hello,

I'd like to use a bq24004 to charge a 2 cell series battery li-ion 8.4V, and power at the same time the rest of my circuit (a sensor 2mA of current, no problem about the voltage) from the battery. I have some questions :

1) Is it a problem if I connect rest of the circuit directly to the battery while it is charging ?

2) Is it a problem if instead of a circuit that draw 2mA I connect a circuit that draw 0.8-1A ?

3) Any suggestion ?

Best regards

Riccardo

  • Hello Riccardo
    1) Is it a problem if I connect rest of the circuit directly to the battery while it is charging ?---This would be OK.

    2) Is it a problem if instead of a circuit that draw 2mA I connect a circuit that draw 0.8-1A ?---The battery charger would provide current up to the fast charge current regulation point and battery could provide additional current. But if the battery is deeply discharged current is limited to precharge current.

    3) Any suggestion ?---This would be difficult without understanding the requirements and rest of the circuit. An additional circuit that would disconnect the battery / charger from rest of circuit if battery voltage falls below 6V would probably be a good idea.
