BQ40Z60: BQ40Z60 Single Cell

Part Number: BQ40Z60
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25895, BQ24610, BQ27531EVM, BQ24190

I have the same question as the previous post, but wanted to know if any new parts have come out since 2016.

The needs of our project are:

  1. Charges Li-poly battery from an external wall DC power supply (TBD. 5 - 12V likely) with constant voltage
  2. Charges >5A
  3. Protection of undervoltage, overvoltage, overcurrent, etc.
  4. Does not require a microcontroller during operation
  5. Retains registry settings if power is lost
  6. Ideally has an pin for indication of charging and complete charging complete
  7. Be inexpensive as possible

I found the BQ25895 to be essentially perfect except it loses the registry values if power is lost.  So while able to charge up to 5A, but default goes back to 2A if power is lost.

The BQ24610 also works well, except it does not appear to have the protection needed like undervoltage cutoff from the load.

Your suggested family is interesting with the eval example - BQ27531EVM. Do you know the default values of the charger IC, since it does not retain its registries if power is lost? I ask since the registries are reset if power is lost.  It appears to be 2A, but I have not tested it.

(From the spec for BQ24190 used in the BQ27531EVM – 9.1.1.1 POR …all the registers are reset to default value.)

Thanks,

Kamron
