TPS65100-Q1: TPS65100-Q1 fine tune RDC to EN pin question

Part Number: TPS65100-Q1

Dear,

we fine tune RDC to EN pin ,but find the Iin (peak to peak) was too High, is could be normal behavior?

Vin=3V,   R=21.98K+C=1uF  as below chart:  ; V p-p=1.19902A

Vin=3v R=50.95K+C=2.2uF  ; V p-p=1.07706A

If any suggestion, Please advise me.

Thanks,

Best regards,

Lawrence.

  • Hello Lawrence,

    Yes, this inrush current is expected because the part is starting relatively fast. You could reduce the peak a bit by increasing the input capacitance. But this will not help too much.

    Another possibility would be a discrete inrush current limiter, see here: e2e.ti.com/.../Input_5F00_current_5F00_limiter.TSC

    The current through R1 decides the input current limitation. As soon as the voltage over this resistor achieves the threshold voltage of ~0.7, T3 turns on that in turn switches of T4 and thus limits the load current.

    This circuit is simulated with TI’s Analog Simulation Program, which can be downloaded here: http://www.ti.com/tool/tina-ti

    Best regards,
