UC2845A: Active Clamp Forward possible?

Part Number: UC2845A

Hello

i make Active Clamp Forward circuit with UC2845A

is that possible?

What is the difference Active Clamp Forward circuit and Forward circuit?

thank you.

  • Hi Seongyun Jeong,

Thanks for your interest in UC2845A. Active clamp forward requires two gate drives, one for the primary side switching FET, the other for the clamping FET. UC2845A only has one gate drive available and would not be a suitable choice for an active clamp forward design unfortunately.

Active clamp forward recycles most of the leakage energy during each switching cycle back to the input. Active clamp forward also has zero voltage switching whereas single switch forward is hard switched, meaning active clamp forward typically has lower switching losses. For reference, take a look at this presentation:.
