TPS24720: OC, OV fault response time and application questions

Part Number: TPS24720

Hi,

My customer raised the questions below for TPS24720. Please help.

1. What about the over current protection response time? What is the minimum response time? If latch, how to relieve?

2. What about the over voltage protection response time? What is the minimum response time? If latch, how to relieve?

3. Can it be detecting other power rail which is lower than 2.5V, like Vcore 1.0V then still have OV feature?

Best regards,

Randy Chen

  • Hi Randy,

1A> The device allows over-currents for fault timer set at the timer pin. After timer expires, it shuts OFF GATE in 5us (typ).
A reset at EN, ENSD, or VCC is needed to restart the device.

2A> OVP has 1.2us deglitch time and after detection it takes typ 5us to turn OFF the external FET. The device automatically comes into operation when OVP fault gets cleared at the input.

Can you elaborate on your last question.
Also, please share the application requirements and system specification.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
  • Hi Rakesh,
Can it be used to detect other power rail which is lower than 2.5V, like Vcore 1.0V then still have OV feature by separating the Vin(Vcore 1.0V) and Vcc(2.5V~18V)?

    Best regards,
    Randy
  • Hi Randy,

It is not possible to use that way. The min. voltage required at SENSE, SET pins is 2.5V.

    Best Regards,
    Rakesh
