TPS43332-Q1: Total System Footprint & Total System BOM Cost_Just for Reference

Dear, Sir.

My customer is considering to apply TPS43332-Q1 Boot & Buck against Vin drop-dowm at

cold-cranking solution.

Vin = 4.5 ~ 16V

Vout#1 = 5V/1A

Vout#2 = 3.3V/2A

Boost fSW = less than 400kHz(half-of Boost fSW)

Buck fSW = less than 400kHz

Unfortunately, WEBENCH tool can't be utilized on this produuct.

If you have the reference infornation about Total System Footprint & Total System BOM Cost,

Please please let me know that (Rough estimation is enough).

    In the meantime, you could reference the TPS43332EVM for recommended components around the PMIC.

  • My apologies for the delay. I have been asking around to see if someone has a parts breakdown and footprint that we have recommended, and the answer is no we don't.

    I went back to one of the original mini layouts that I did a while back and pulled some numbers.

    The parts for a 20 piece build is $7.76 not including the IC. In large quantities I calculated about $1.50 for Q200 automotive qualified parts. Less if industrial (< $1.00). I don't have a cost for the IC so you will need to work that out with the customer.

    The foot print was 0.9"x0.7", again with Q200 parts, which are larger than the industrial version of parts. All parts were on the same side of the PCB, using a 4 layer board. I could have reduced the size to about 0.7"x0.7" if needed, and smaller if I placed some parts on the bottom of the board. (maybe 0.6"x0.6") 

    I hope this helps. I will talk to marketing and see if we can create a release version of these numbers.

    I forgot to point out that the design I was talking about was lower power and used very small components. After thinking about it, based on your requirements I don't think the customer can make it this small. The cost will go up based on higher current components as well. I don't want to mislead the customer. Please adjust the size and cost to 2x what I originally told you to accommodate the higher current and larger components.

    I tried to extract the necessary portion from EVM and calculated out the 

    cost based on Digi-Key's information from BOM. 

    I become comfortable to obtain your advice.
