LMZ14201: Performance in presence of strong electromagnetic field

Part Number: LMZ14201
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZ14203

The particular application I intend to use the LMZ14201 power module for requires it to operate in the presence of the a large electromagnetic field. Is there any documentation for this product on the performance in such an environment?

  • Hello Liam,

I am not aware of any such documentation for this product.

Depending on the field strength and direction, it may affect the inductor and reduce or increase its effective inductance. The effective DC current limit may be affected by this. I would suggest using a higher current limit part (for example LMZ14203 for 3A) so that you have more margin in your testing. The LMZ14201 is a 1A part with the same pinout.

    Cheers,
    Denislav
  • Hi Liam,

There is no documentation of an application where LMZ14201 is subjected to a large external electromagnetic field. However, the datasheet provides PCB layout guidance to help minimize EMI coupling to the device. What is type of application do you intend to use the LMZ14201 in? There certainly are white papers on designing power modules for low EMI applications. Most of the application note available on EMI pertains to minimizing high di/dt loops that could couple noise into the power paths and result in higher EMI readings that can affect CISPR test results.
