LM3429: What's the max power that LM3429 can drive?

Part Number: LM3429
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS92691, TPS92692

Hi All,

I got a question from my customer: What's the maximum power that LM3429/TPS92691/TPS92692 are able to drive? And do we have any related materials on how to estimate or calculate this base on the chip drive strength, sink/source current and resistor and also the frequency(300kHz) and MOSFET parameters. Do we have any tools for calculating the power consumption?

Many thanks!

  • Hi Ted,

The parts you mentioned are controllers so the output power will be dependent and limited by the external components. The main thing is to pick a FET that has a low enough Rds(on) for thermal and efficiency reasons and a low enough gate charge that you do not current limit VCC (Ivcc = Qg*Fsw). Remember to use the miminum limit number.

For the TPS92692 we have Excel spread sheet calculators to determine the power lost and help with the power stage design. They are under the software section.
