[FAQ] TPS65070: Unused Pin Connections

Part Number: TPS65070
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS65072, TPS650732, TPS650731, TPS65073

How should I connect/terminate un-used pins on the TPS65070?

The TPS65070 shares a datasheet with the TPS65072, TPS65073, TPS650731, and TPS650732. Does this advice apply to all of these devices?

  • Below is a list of pins and the correct way to connect/terminate them if they are un-used in your application of the TPS65070:

    • INTz - The INTz pin of the TPS6507x is an open drain output and should be connected to ground if it is not used.
    • RESETz - The RESETz pin of the TPS6507x is an open drain output and should be connected to ground if it is not used.
    • AC - If the AC pin of the TPS6507x is not used connect a 1uF capacitor from AC to GND.
    • ADC - If the ADC of the TPS6507x is unused, the inputs should be terminated to ground.
    • BAT - When powering from AC or USB, if the BAT pin of the TPS6507x is not used, connect a 10uF ceramic capacitor to GND. Do not leave this pin floating and do not connect directly to GND.
    • BYPASS - If the BYPASS pin is not used, connect 10uF capacitor from BYPASS to GND. BYPASS voltage is used as a reference fro the ADC and the charger. Do not leave this pin floating and do not connect directly to GND
    • INT_LDO - Connect a 2.2uF capacitor from INT_LDO to GND. INT_LDO is an internal reference. Do not leave this pin floating and do not connect directly to GND.
    • ISET - The ISET pin should be connected to a 100k-Ohm resistor to ground if the pin is unused.
    • TS - If the thermistor on pin TS is not used, a standard 10k-Ohm resistor should be connected from pin TS to ground.
    • THRESHOLD - THRESHOLD is the input of the /RESET comparator. In the case where /RESET is not used, THRESHOLD could be either connected high (e.g. to SYS) or pulled low (to GND).
    • USB -  Connect the USB pin of the TPS6507x to ground if it is unused.
    • VINLDO1/2 - If VINDLO1/2 is not used, connect the recommended 2.2 uF capacitor from VINLDO1/2 to GND and connect VINLDO1/2 to SYS. Do not leave this pin floating and do not connect directly to GND. The output of an LDO can be left open if the LDO is not used.
    • wLED Boost (multiple pins)- Please make the following connections if the wLED Boost Converter of the TPS6507x is unused.
      • L4 -  to ground
      • ISET1 - with a 100kohm resistor to ground
      • ISET2 - with a 100kohm resistor to ground
      • ISINK1 - to ground
      • ISINK2 - to ground
      • FB_WLED - to ground

This advice applies to all devices in the family of parts that have the same set of pins: the TPS65070, TPS65073, TPS650731, and TPS650732.

The TPS65072 does not have the RESETz pin or the THRESHOLD pin, so the advice for these pins does not apply to this device. The TPS65072 has pins named EN_EXTLDO and EN_wLED instead of RESETz and THRESHOLD.
