TPS61177A: Can you use two of the TPS61177A chips in a single design?

Hi Folks,

I have an application where I need to control 40 red and 40 blue LEDs. I looked at the LP8555 chip which would allow me to control all 80 LEDs with a single chip but it's only available in a BSA package. Prototyping a BSA package isn't for the faint of heart so I avoid them if possible.

The TPS61177A looks like it will work for the input voltage range I have (2.5V - 4V from a single Li-ion cell) but they have the same I2C address. Is there a recommended method to use two or more of the chips in a design? Would the TCA9543A I2C multiplexer work?

Hi Richard,
Actually, we don't have much experience on this two chip application. It seems the TCA9543A is a good choice to solve the address conflict. You 'd better request the EVM and have a try. But I want to know whether do you need to control those all LEDs at the same time? or you need to control red LEDs and blue LEDs separately?

Thanks for the quick reply. I will have to control the red and blue LEDs separately. Will that make a difference?

No, I suggest to validate that method on the EVM first. it should be ok.
