VREG5 pin capacitor of TPS54427

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS54427

We have questions about TPS54427.

In datasheet p.3, about VREG5 pin,

A capacitor (typical 1 µF) should be connected to GND.

Question 1.

Are there any wrong if we use 0.1μF in VREG5 pin?

Question 2.

Please tell us the minimum capacitance about VREG5 pin capacitor.

Question 3.

When checking the influence on the difference in capacitance,

what should we focus on and check?

Best regards,

  • Hi,
This cap is used to prevent noise on Vreg5 pin, while Vreg5 is used to turn on HS and LS MOS. A very small cap may cause ripple on Vreg5 pin, and may cause SW waveform unstable. Therefore, you should check SW waveform at highest Vin and Iout in your application, make sure the SW waveform is stable. Besides, place the cap as close as possible to the Vreg5 pin.
