Is the purpose of the TVS (SMBJ15CA) device on the input of TPS259261 to limit overshoot when 12V is hotplugged into the circuit using an inductive power cable? Or is this just to suppress input transients from ESD?
I'm considering using the TPS259261 in a design that will be powered by a 12V external power supply that has 1m long cable between the AC/DC powersupply and the barrel jack. A previous design had to have capacitance with high ESR added to the input to minimize overshoot that would occur. Will using a similar TVS device like in the EVM prevent this or should I still plan on high-ESR capacitance at the input? The TPS259261 datasheet only talks about a small ceramic capacitor at the input.
