UCC28881: 12V Battery Charger

I have a design that comes from WEBENCH with the following parameters: VinMin = 90, VinMax = 400, Vout = 13.6, Iout = 200ma. I want to use the circuit to charge a small 12V 1.3A battery. Any special requirements to use the circuit as a charger?

The maximum output current for UCC28881 is 225mA. It also does not have the ability to regulate both constant voltage and constant current CV/CC. If these limitations are ok then UCC28881 can work for your application.

Hi Lonnie,

Thanks for your interest in UCC28881. Given the wide input voltage range, a flyback configuration would be suitable. You will need two control loops, one to set maximum charging current, the other to set maximum output voltage. For reference, take a look at TIDA-00200. This is a 200W interleaved flyback charger. It's a little higher power range than you are planning to work with but you can use it as a reference for designing your control loops:www.ti.com/.../tidra05.pdf
