[FAQ] TPS23861: What’s the max power output? How to achieve higher output power?

Part Number: TPS23861

What’s the max power output? How to achieve higher output power?

  • Each port has the highest current limit at 920mA. Assuming the port voltage is 57V (maximum according to IEEE standard), the max power of each port is 57V * 0.92A = 52.44W.

If you are looking for high power solutions (ex 60W) with TPS23861, UPoE solution is a good fit. The basic idea is to connect two PSE channels to one RJ45 connecter and deliver power through all 4 pair of the Ethernet cable: one PSE channel connects to pair 12&36 and the other channel connects to pair 45&78. Then the current goes to PD load can be doubled. The TPS23861EVM-612 is a good reference which has two 4-pair ports.
