LM5060: For LM5060, over current threshold is uneven (from Min threshold to Max threshold)

Part Number: LM5060
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LM5069, TPS25942A, TPS2660

Hello,

Am using LM5060. As per the calculation sheet available from texas, the minimum worst case over current threshold  : 3.5A,

Max worst case over current threshold : 26.3A.

The threshold (Min to Max) are not linear. Kindly provide information regarding this.

Also suggest whether the threshold can be tunable to the nearest values (Min 3.5A & Max 26.3A is very high).

  • Hi Sai,

Can you please share your system requirements and importance of current limiting for your application.

You can consider LM5060 as high side switch with crude over current protection. The current limiting threshold for LM5060 depends on the external FET Ron which has wide variation with respect to FET process and operating temperature. So, for better current limiting needs please look at LM5069.

  • Hi Rakesh,

    Our system requirements :

We are having two types of systems. Type 1 : Input voltage = 12V@4A with Vin min : 7V , V in max : 17V.

          Type 2 : Input voltage = 24V@2A with Vin min : 18V, V in max : 33V.

    Please find the attached schematics.

  • Hi Sai,

We can address your needs with integrated solutions. Below are the options....
    Type 1 : Input voltage = 12V@4A with Vin min : 7V , V in max : 17V.
    TPS259541DSG or TPS25942A

    Type 2 : Input voltage = 24V@2A with Vin min : 18V, V in max : 33V.
    TPS2660
