BQ29200: OVP and Balancing range

Part Number: BQ29200

Hi Team,

I have got some questions for BQ29200 that need your help.

  1. I see the OVP is 4.35v, what will BQ29200 do if the voltage exceed 4.35v?

  2. The range of cell balancing 7.6V - 8.4V, what will happen if the max voltage is as high as 8.4V?

Thanks.

  • Hi Holly,

    1. If the voltage exceeds the 4.35V threshold for OVP for the selected delay time, the OUT pin will drive high. The OUT pin will stay high until the voltage comes below 4.35V - VHYS where VHYS is approximately 300mV. The delay time is set by the capacitor on the CD pin. Figure 4 of the datasheet shows how the OUT pin responds to the overvoltage condition.

    2. The range of balancing is the recommended range. Balancing will still occur outside of this range if the CB_EN pin is held low. The CB_EN pin can be controlled externally or tied low if your battery gauge will limit the charging and discharging voltage range. For Li Ion, you would normally not go outside of this range for safe operation of the cells.

    Best regards,
    Matt
