LMZM23601EVM: LMZM23601 EVM went damage

Part Number: LMZM23601EVM
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMZM23601

Hi,

The LMZM23601 EVM  went damage as i check the function. After a repeated switch on the power (vin), the modul is without function.
The paramters were: Input 36V, Output 5V 1A, Last 5 Ohm || 470uF

Now the supply curent is 1,4mA and the output voltage is zero. No Bursts are to measurement at the inductor. Without a supply, i measure 1,25 Ohm between one conductor of the inductor and ground.
I think, the pull down mosfet is shorted and defekt.

Is the capacitor of 470uF to big?

Best Regards, Ben

  • Hi Ben.

    For a 5V output application, 470uF is too big since the maximum  recommended output capacitance(Section 9.2.2.3) is 220uF. The larger the output capacitance is, the longer it will take for the output voltage to regulate at the final value. Too larger of an output capacitance can trick the power module to trip output short protection and will result in the part entering hiccup mode.

    What you can do to check if the power module's application is try reducing the output capacitance to  22uF-220uF and power up the power module again.

    Regards,

    Jimmy
