BQ25101H: Efficiency data?

Part Number: BQ25101H
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: BQ25101

Regarding battery charger  BQ25101H, I have been measuring an efficiency of ~80% at a load of 3.7V, 100mA. I was expecting a higher efficiency of this part, I am planning to test the EVM this week to ensure it is not a layout issue.

What kind of efficiency can I expect from this device (assuming good layout/device selection) at 3.7V, 100mA? I'm hoping for >= 90%. Is that feasible?

Thank you,

Brian Angiel

  • Hi Brian
The BQ25101 is linear charger similar to a linear regulator and efficiency is a function of input voltage vs output voltage.
Typical system will be 5V in and 3.7V out for 74%, (3.7/5).
Power dissipation on the device at 100mA will be about 130mW.

Only way to improve efficiency is the reduce input voltage and this will lead to other problems.
