LM3429: Increasing the Max Input Voltage

Hello there,

I was thinking about adding a Zener diode/(Voltage regulator) to limit the VCC, and use appropriately rated components for the Buck-Boost configuration, so that I can use this IC for 8.5V to 120V DC input range.

Is it advisable?

Hello,

No, 120V DC will exceed the rating of the high side current sense if Vin is 120 VDC. By Vin I don't mean the Vin pin I mean the return of the buck boost to 120 VDC since the high side current sense amplifier will exceed ABS MAX.

Right after I posted , I rechecked the Datasheet and came to the same conclusion.

Do you have recommendations on any other Controller, which can be used for 8.5 to 120V Input range, preferably in Floating Buck-Boost Topology ?

Hello Satbir,

I would look at the TPS92075/TPS92074. It was intended to be a power factor corrected buck but the systems engineer created a buck boost from one of them (they are very similar). http://www.ti.com/tool/TPS92075EVM?keyMatch=TPS92075&tisearch=Search-EN-Everything

There are other off-line controllers that could work as well.
