TLV704: NC pins TLV704

Part Number: TLV704

Team,

according the the datasheet of TLV704, the pins 4 and 5 are not connected and recommendation is to either leave them floating or connect them to GND.
We would like to connect Pin 4 to IN and Pin 5 to GND as this would simplify our layout.
Is there any concerns with this approach?

Thanks!

  • Hi Joe,

    It is recommended to connect pins 4 and 5 to ground for improved thermal performance. The TLV704 comes in the SOT-23 package which has poor thermal metrics. If your application requires a lot of power dissipation across the pass FET of the LDO, the PCB must be laid out carefully to ensure that the junction temperature of the LDO does not exceed 125 C. The junction temperature can be estimated with the following equation:

    Tj = Ta + Rja * Pd

    Tj = Junction temperature
    Ta = Ambient temperature
    Rja = Junction-to-Ambient thermal resistance
    Pd = Power dissipation across the pass FET

    If thermals are not an issue for your application, in the case of the TLV704, pin 4 can be connected to IN without any issues.

    Thanks,
    Gerard
