TPS2120: Output Source Selection Table

Part Number: TPS2120

Hi, TPS2120 support team

I would like to confirm if the following condition shown by the red square is correct.

It looks like that "IN1≧UV" is wrong, but "IN1≦UV" is correct. And also, is OR correct? It looks like that it is not OR, but AND.

Thanks

Tamio

  • Hi Tamio,

Thanks for reaching out to us via E2E!

Good catch, the first column should be "IN1 ≦ UV". We are currently updating the datasheet and should have revisions finished within the next few weeks before RTM.

Regarding your question on OR vs AND, the statements should be kept as OR. For example, in the second column, if IN2 is below UV OR OV2 is greater than VREF, this means that IN2 is not presenting a valid input voltage. Therefore, if this condition is true, then IN2 should not be the output.

Let me know if you have any additional questions!

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang

  • Hi, Arthur

    I appreciate you support.

I confirmed the datasheet in web site which Table 2 was updated. I would like to suggest TPS2120 as VCONN switch for USB Type-C to customer as follows.

     .

The output can be selected IN1 or Hi-Z by GPIO control of EC.

How do you think about this suggestion?

    Thanks

    Tamio

  • Hi Tamio,

Yes, looking at that configuration, the device can output IN1 or HI-Z, depending on the GPIO control. This is a very interesting use-case of the TPS2120, this is the first example I've seen of using the TPS2120 as a USB-C VCONN switch.

Out of curiosity, do you see this as a common socket in your application?

Feel free to email me privately at a-huang@ti.com.

    Thanks,

    Arthur Huang
