TPS2514: TPS2514 D+D- only USB DCP applying 1.2V required by customer's side

Part Number: TPS2514
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TPS2546

My customer is considering using our TPS2514 device. But his application only need D+D- only USB DCP applying 1.2V, current 0.9A-1.1A,  But our TPS2514 could support D+D- 1.2V, and also D+ 2.7V, D- , 2.0V, current up to 2A. He do not want to use the such high current for his Apple i-phone. so I have two questions below,

1. If our device could close the D+ 2.7V, D- , 2.0V, current up to 2A setting? Or other ways to get the requirement?

2. Any other device could he use? USB DCP controller. 0.9A-1.1A

Thanks.

  • 1. The TPS2514 is not able to meet this requirement.
    2. The TPS2546 could be configured as a SDP and meet your cutomer's target performance.
  • Hi Chuck,

         Thanks for your comment.

         I have below questions ,

        1.  In SDP mode, if we do not have USB HOST controller in D+- out pin,  does we could identify the USB device( Iphone in customer's application ),  and support 1A current output?

2,. Could we control DCP mode current 1A in our device?

      Thanks.

  • If you do not have the Host Controller present, then you need to configure the TPS2546 to act as a DCP (Dedicated Charging Port) In this configuration, the TPS2546 will manage the port power to match the attached phone. The TPS2546 will allow you to configure ILIM_HI to 1A, but the issue with what you are trying to do is that, you are required to provide 1.5A of current to be compliant with the BC1.2 testing. The part will function in Divider mode at 1A (Divider 2) with an Iphone, but will not necessarily work with other phones.

The part will behave as desired, but it will not be compliant to the Standards.
