BQ40Z80EVM-020: Evaluation board doesn't stay connected to Bqstudio

Hi,

I'm trying to set up a bq40z80 evm before going the custom pcb route for a battery pack, but I can't get bqstudio to stay connected to the board for more than a few seconds. Basically if I press the Wake button, the chip's adress pops up on the left and everything seems to communicate, but then after a while it disconnects.

My configuration is the following:

standard evm board, with d3 and r7 removed as per datasheet
4s 10A battery pack connected to 1n...4p then shorted 4p,5p,6p,7p together.
system presence shorted to PACK -

Did i miss somehting?

The default config is for 7s, you will need to have a charger voltage on the pack side and then change cell config to 03 to stop shutdown.

Hi Batt,

I tried to setup the cell config to 4 ( I suppose the 03 was a miswriting?) using an external power supply as suggested but the board still doesn't stay on when i disconnect the PS. I wanted to try a full reset but the "import default" feature doesn't work..

Would it be possible to send me the correct default config file?

Hi Nick,

Please disable auto shutdown in the power registers if you have that enabled. If you have a 4s config you need to short VC3 through VC6. The default gg is attached.

Hi Batt,

Thanks for the quick answer. I tried to load the .gg.csv file you sent me but I got these two errors.

I definitely think there is something weird because lots of settings differ from the defaults on my config while I didn't change them

Do not use excel to open or change the csv file. It is meant to be used only with notepad or other text edittors.

I didn't open it at all. Just loaded straight out the the zip to bqstudio

OK, after re-setting every parameter one by one by hand, and setting it back to 4 cells as only modified setting, it connects to bqstudio and stays connected without external power supply.
I will now just need to calibrate everything in order for it to allow the toggling of the discharge fet right?
