Hello team,
my customer is using LT3080 as a current source (up to 1A), do we have any suitable replacement for this part?
can you please advise back, thanks in advance.
Regards,
Shai

Hello Shai,
Our Cross Reference search here http://www.ti.com/sitesearch/docs/crossreferencesearch.tsp indicates that the TPS7A47 is a suitable replacement. Please take a look at the data sheet here http://www.ti.com/product/TPS7A47?keyMatch=lt3080&tisearch=Search-EN-CrossRef If that device does not meet your needs, just post a reply with details.
Hi Shai,
The LM150/LM350A/LM350 and LM1086 are some of TI's wide input linear regulators than can be used as constant current regulators without an external MCU. See the figure below for an example circuit. The output current is calculated as follows:
Iout = Vref / R1 = 1.25 V / R1
As such, the current regulator shown below can be configured for 1 A by replacing R1 with a 1.2 Ohm, 2 W resistor.
Keep in mind that these devices will need more headroom (VIN - VOUT) to regulate properly compared to the LT3080. The LM150 dropout voltage is about 1.8 V (typical) at 1 A, and the LM1086 dropout voltage is about 1.1 V (typical) at 1 A.
Thanks,
Gerard
