TWL6032: Reverse Polarity Protection

Part Number: TWL6032

Team,

I have a customer that has just begun production runs on a product containing TWL6032. They've had a few issues where they believe it is being caused by the battery initially being plugged in backwards. Are there any recommended solutions for this PMIC, or will a simple shunt diode suffice here?

  • Carolus,

A shunt diode between the negative and positive leads of the battery should help to prevent damage on the TWL6032 from batteries plugged in backwards. In this case, if a battery is plugged in backwards, the current would flow through the battery, rather than the PMIC. Note: This would cause the battery to heat up, indicating backwards installation.

    Thanks,
    Nastasha
