BQ20Z80: OC delay

Part Number: BQ20Z80

Hi,

one of my customers uses bq20z80 in a battery pack. They came across a behavior that they would like to get advice on:

We are currently facing an issue on one of our batteries with the bq20z80.

We set the OC (1st tier) discharge threshold to 5.5A and the OC (1st tier) delay to 2s.

After applying 6A, we got below results:

Results in 2.3 are ok, even though the delay is ~ 3.7s instead of 2s.

Results in 2.4 are nok, because delay is > 7s and there is a big variation between the delay of sample 1 and 2.

Difference between 2.3 and 2.4 is only the communication. In 2.3 communication is active and in 2.4 communication is not active.

There is nothing mentioned in the datasheet / reference manual of the bq20z80 towards different OCD behavior with and without communication.

The device is in Sleep mode for the case that SMBC and SMBD are low. It is in normal mode when SMBC and SMBD are high.

Best regards,
Phil
